We work hard for our client, work positively with consultants and seek innovation through collaboration.    Since our establishment, we have cultivated a solid resource base of highly qualified staff, consultants and subcontractors, whilst maintaining the family connection through the company, from site management to company directors.

Established in 1971 by Andrew Bristow as a sole trader. Over time, the business' steady growth has developed into a well established family company with our core commitment to the satisfaction and value add for our clients.

The Bristow brand is built on experience, knowledge and service.  Nevertheless, we constantly strive to improve our performance.

  • Quality Assurance system has been certified by Global-Mark and complies with all the requirements of AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008: Quality Management Systems.
  • Our OH&S Management System has been third party certified by Global-Mark and complies with all the requirements of AS/NZS 4801-2001: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. We are also accredited by the Department of Commerce for meeting the requirements of the NSW Government OHS Management System Guidelines 4th Edition June 2004.

Projects Government - Local Thirroul Station

Client:  Sydney Trains

Thirroul Railway Station is located on the Illawarra line and has been the transport hub for the northern Wollongong suburb of Thirroul since 1887.  The station including the platform buildings, former weatherboard toilets and Railway Institute building is of State heritage significance.

The main objective of the work undertaken was the structural repairs and restoration of the station's heritage buildings and installation of a new awning.

Projects Government - Local Chinese Gardens

Client: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority

Chinese Garden of Friendship is more than just a city garden, the walled garden recreates the harmony of a traditional Chinese garden with waterfalls, exotic plants, pavillions and hidden pathways.  In 2013, the public toilet facilities at the Chinese Garden were fully upgraded with male, famale and disabled toilets plus a baby change / family room providing visitors to the garden access to toilet facilities onsite.

The new facilities featured contemporary design and unique brass perforated screens.  Building works to refurbish the toilet facilities occurred whilst the garden remained open to the general public.

Projects Government - Local Rockdale Station

Client: Transport For NSW

As part of the Sydney Train's Station Refresh Program to deep clean, improve station security, upgrade toilets, install new lighting and provide customers with better facilities. Rockdale Station was one out of the nineteen stations in the south region to receive a "refresh".

Projects Government - Local LARC Park Landscape

Client: Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

These works opened up areas of the Woolwich Dock and Parklands Reserve that were previously not accessible to the general public. This included demolition and removal of existing structures, clearance of stockpiled materials, as well as considerable landscaping to create paved, native gardened area.

Projects Government - Local North Fort Car Park

Client: Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

Construction of a short-stay car park at the popular North Head Sanctuary in Manly provided much needed additional parking spaces.  The new bitumen car park and drainage included washed concrete kerbs and pathways, concrete retaining wall and deco granite.

 

Projects Government - Local Outdoor Seating and Landscaping

Client: University of New South Wales

Landscaping across five locations at the Kensington Campus of the University of New South Wales. This included concrete dwarf walls, specialist planting, paving and outdoor seating.

Projects Government - Local CPC Pathway Connection

Client: University of Sydney

Working within a tight five-week timeframe, AJB undertook the civil and architectural landscaping project, work included washed concrete pathways with inlaid stone paving, off-form concrete walls and seating, sandstone retaining walls, and bulk planting work.

Projects Government - Local Scintigraphy Imaging Centre

Client: University of Sydney

Following the demolition of the original building, AJB constructed the most advanced Nuclear Scintigraphy Unit for the University of Sydney's Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camden. The construction process included the installation of the state-of-art technology, Skylight Oceania gamma camera and concrete shielded walls to ensure compliance with strict safety requirements.

Projects Government - Local Hydrotherapy Pool

Client: Department of Commerce

At the Katoomba Hospital located in the Blue Mountains, we built the first multi-purpose indoor hydrotherapy pool at the hospital.  The pool heats to 31-32 degrees Celsius with air temperature control. The project included all water purification and treatment processes. The pool is easily accessible for people with disabilities or wheelchair bound clients, with ramps accessing the building down to pool level.

Projects Government - Local BER Primary School Project

Client:  Department of Education and Bovis Lend Lease

Part of the Australian Government's economic stimulus package as a response to the GFC, "Building the Education Revolution" (BER), AJB built a total of 12 primary school buildings ranging from libraries, school halls, canteens, homebases to COLAs.

The locations were spread across Northern Sydney from Dural, Hunters Hill, Middle Harbour, Mosman, Berowra, Annangrove, Galston, Asquith, Mt Colah, Hazelbrook, Melrose Park to Clarke Road School in Hornsby.

Projects Government - Local Fire and Ambulance Station, Bundeena

Client: Department of Public Works NSW

With the construction of a new joint fire and ambulance station at Bundeena.  The station was officially opened in December 2013 as the State government's "first" purpose-built station for New South Wales.

Projects Government - Local Science Laboratories

Client: University of New South Wales

The project was a refurbishment of the CSAT Modifications and OMBE Installation, Condense Physics Laboratories located in the lower ground and ground floors in Building K15 on the Kensington campus.  The refurbishment works were undertaken whilst the building remained occupied by students and staff.

Projects Government - Local Library, North Sydney Girls High School

Client: Department of Services and Finance

Constructed on the top floor of an existing three-storey building, the complete refurbishment and extension to the library building created facilities that provided students with access to a wide range of curriculum resources in an aethetic environment.

Projects Government - Local Macquarie Lightstation Townhouses

Client: Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

We performed internal and external alterations to these four two-storey dwellings, creating new dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and garden landscaping.

Whilst the townhouses are not heritage buildings, the site on which they are located has heritage significance.

Projects Government - Local Audley Dance Hall

Client: NSW Public Works

Located within the Audley Weir National Park, we undertook the complete refurbishment of the heritage listed Audley Dance Hall building.  The works included major demolition and structural alterations to the building fabric with significant hydraulic and electrical upgrades, new amenities area, all in preparation for a new cafe and commercial kitchen.

The project also included the installation of exposed aggregate pathways, sandstone paved outdoor dining area with custom cast outdoor concrete seating, all within the environmentally sensitive National Park.

Projects Government - Local Sydenham Train Station

Client: Sydney Trains

The Station Refresh Program aimed to deliver improved customer areas and facilities at metropolitan stations. 

The works completed at Sydenham Station included deep clean, painting and refresh of customer toilet facilities, new water bubblers, new seating, improvements to station security and lighting. 

Projects Government - Local Eveleigh Locomotive Workshop

Client: Australian Technology Park

This project was for major stonework repairs to the external facades of the Eveleigh Locomotive Workshop, ensuring the collection of Victorian period railway workshops remains one of Australia's finest industrial heritage items.

Projects Government - Local Victoria Park Gardener’s Cottage

Client: City of Sydney Council

Restoration and refurbishment to this heritage building included major work to the external sandstone as well as a complete fitout to the interior to become a café. Prior to work commencing, the site had been vacant, and after 10 years of neglect the building fell into disrepair.

Client: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority

This row of 1843 sandstone commercial buildings had five operating shopfronts whilst the the major internal and external conservation and maintenance restoration works occurred.  

Projects Government - Local Old Police Station

Client: Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority

WINNER – 2014 NSW Australian Institute of Architects award for Heritage Conservation

The former No. 4 Police Station is the oldest Police Station in Australia and is on the State Heritage register.  As part of major base building restoration works involved major sandstone works, new slate roof, service upgrades and general structural stabilisation works, followed by a complete internal fitout including an industrial kitchen to accommodate a high-end restaurant.

 

 

Client: University of Sydney

The refurbishment of the heritage-listed MacLaurin Hall included work to the sandstone facade and replacement of all the leadlight windows.
